Skiathos

The cosmopolitan
It is arguably the most attractive and certainly the most touristic island in the Sporades thanks to a combine of a delight – full – pine clad landscape, excellent beaches with crystal – clear azure waters, good ferry links and a charter flight airport. The south part of the island has undergone a large-scale tourist development with excellent tourist facilities, while the northern side remains natural and unexplored.
The capital town of Skiathos, located at the south coast, is the islands main attraction and a modern resort which with its picturesque harbour is today a popular yacht destination that has added the island in the cosmopolitan map. In front of the town lies Bourtzi, a verdant hill on a small peninsula, where the ruins of a Venetian Fortress still stand. The island has 60 beaches, among them Koukounaries that is been named the third best beach in the Mediterranean. An important role in the history and culture of the island have played the numerous churches and monasteries.
