Skiathos Port
Skiathos port is the town’s most important landmark. This natural harbour has determined the destiny of the town for centuries. Today it is a popular yacht and sailing boat haven that adds a cosmopolitan flair to the island. The picturesque harbour surrounded by four small islets is a sight not to be forgotten. The Peninsula Bourtzi divides it into the small/southern and the large/northern port. The rocky islet is connected to the coast by an embankment on which there is a conspicuous building with a monument in front of it. Muddy bottom with weed, very good holding.
Approach
When approaching the port following are discernible: the town buildings around the port amongst which are a tall building and a church with a conspicuous bell-tower W of the southern port and Daska-lonisi immediately S of the breakwater.
Mooring
Bows-to /stern-to the N quay of the N/new port. Alternatively, bows-to/stern-to the pier of the S port if space is available since this is used by tour boats. It is also possible to anchor outside the port or in various places in Skiathos bay. Anchorage is forbidden in part of the NE inlet of the bay.
Shelter
The N/new port affords shelter in all-around winds. The SE+S winds cause annoying swell. The S/old port is affected by SE+S winds. Wave height reaches, on estimation, up to 0.50m and 3.5m in the N port and bay respectively in SE-SW/8Bf winds.
Weather
Prevailing N-E winds (strong meltemi). Local forecasting signs: cloud towards the crest of Dirfis on Evia with a clear horizon on this side forebodes S winds. In S or N winds sea level rises or falls by 0.60m respectively. Neighbouring refuges: Siferi, Achladia and Tzaneria coves on the W coasts of the Skiathos bay in SW-N winds.
